It’s 2010 and all of the projects we are supporting now have their very own websites full of interesting information, photos, and even videos about the programs. Below is a brief recap of each project with a link to their websites so you can read more about the amazing people and programs that we support through your donations and purchases of ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS ORGANIC, FAIR TRADE COFFEE from Timor Leste. You can place an order for coffee by clicking here or calling 206-782-8773. Thank you to everyone who has helped us support the following organizations!!

The project we have supported the longest is HIAM Health. We had the wonderful opportunity to visit them in 2005 when Joe and Debra took 10 high school students to Timor Leste for 10 days. We met with Rosaria Martins Da Cruz, the long-time Director, and were so amazed at what they could accomplish from the tiny little office they had near the National Hospital in Dili. It was so clearly a labor of love and devotion to the improvement of people’s lives in a very direct way, and we have watched with great satisfaction and pride as the organization has grown and prospered. Take a look at their website www.hiamhealth.org and read about the recent visit from President Jose Ramos Horta to their new expanded Malnutrition Centre!!

The Just Coffee Gardeners of Eden Project, out of Madison Wisconsin, supports agricultural programs all over the world, including Timor Leste. Their website at www.justcoffee.coop/seedproject  can show you all the amazing things they are doing to work with farmers and family gardeners to improve the health of the land, the nutrition of the food, and the health of the people of Timor Leste.

Fundasaun Lafaek Diak (Happy Crocodile Foundation) funds a variety of health, agricultural and employment projects, including the Women’s Weaving Cooperative that makes beautiful items out of traditionally woven fabrics. Their website at www.lafaekdiak.org has lots of photos of their projects and a catalog of all the woven items.

Tuba Rai Metin is a micro-lending organization that gives credit to women in Timor for starting small businesses, following more or less the classic micro-lending strategies perfected by Grameen Bank. Their site is located at www.tubaraimetin.com They have extensive information about their programs and about the tremendous needs for sustainable economic development in this emerging democracy struggling with great poverty and lack of infrastructure.

While you are out there surfing around, check out the blog from Tom and Monica Liddle, old friends of ours who live and work in Timor Leste. Monica is a midwife and Tom is a carpenter, and together with their two small children they are living an amazing life in Los Palos, at the extreme eastern end of the island. See their interesting descriptions of village life at www.monicaliddle.com

Finally, we want to share the lovely poem, NEJIA, written by Pamela Sexton who lives and works in East Timor.
